Welcome

We welcome you to the South Carolina Nurses Association. The purpose of the association is to promote the professional status of nurses and to improve health care in South Carolina. South Carolina upholds the "Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements, 2001". SCNA is also a source of information for the nurse, the health care community and the public.

We are committed to making a difference for nurses in South Carolina. The South Carolina Nurses Association is the official voice of nursing in this state, speaking out on health care issues on behalf of nurses and the public. Through SCNA, nurses can become powerful advocates for our patients and for our profession.

SCNA Endorses SC Pandemic Influenza Ethics Task Force Work

The Board of Directors of SCNA has voted its endorsement of South Carolina Prepares for Pandemic Influenza: An Ethical Perspective created by the Pandemic Influenza EthicsTask Force.  This action took place in March of 2010 following extensive presentations by members of the Task Force, Dr. Robert Ball, Jr. co-chair and Dr. Jane Richter, a member of SCNA, who served on the Public Health Practices work group as co-chair.  SCNA joins other professional associations in South Carolina in endorsing this important work.  The full report may be viewed at http://www.scdhec.gov/administration/library/CR-009538.pdf. The American Nurses Association (ANA), the largest nursing organization in the U.S., encourages nurses to show support for the leaders in our profession by voting for nurses in Modern Healthcare’s “100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare” ranking. Nurses played a key role in the passage of health reform legislation this year. We helped make history! Getting nurse leaders included in the “Most Powerful” rankings is an excellent way to bring much deserved visibility to the nursing profession.

Nurse Practitioner Eligibility Expanded for NHSC Scholarship Program

The American Nurses Association (ANA) provides the following information received from the U.S. Dept of Health & Human Services (HHS) National Health Service Corps (NHSC):
The NHSC Scholarship guidance has been expanded from Family Nurse Practitioner to include Nurse Practitioners specializing in adult, family, geriatrics, pediatrics, psychiatric or women's health.
