We welcome you to the South Carolina Nurses Association. The purpose of the association is to promote the professional status of nurses and to improve health care in South Carolina. South Carolina upholds the "Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements, 2001". SCNA is also a source of information for the nurse, the health care community and the public.

We are committed to making a difference for nurses in South Carolina. The South Carolina Nurses Association is the official voice of nursing in this state, speaking out on health care issues on behalf of nurses and the public. Through SCNA, nurses can become powerful advocates for our patients and for our profession.

The Lancet Retracts MMR, Autism Study

On February 2, 2010, leading medical journal, The Lancet, officially retracted a controversial study by Dr Andrew Wakefield. The study, published in 1998 was the first to report a purported link between the MMR vaccine and the onset of autism. That reported association became one of the primary sources cited by those believing in the autism-vaccine link. The retraction came after an independent regulator concluded that the study was flawed. The General Medical Council reported that "there was a biased selection of patients in The Lancet paper" and that his "conduct in this regard was dishonest and irresponsible."

ANA Responds to President's Budget Proposal

The American Nurses Association (ANA) supports the President’s budget for fiscal year 2011, which clearly demonstrates his continued commitment to strengthening the nation’s nursing workforce and improving access to health services. The $509 million included for health professions programs includes $244 million for increasing the capacity of the nurse workforce. These funds will go toward the recruitment, education, and retention of 20,000 nursing students and registered nurses and support over 1,370 loan repayments and scholarship awards
