SCNA Chapter Advancement Award Guidelines

The purpose of the award guidelines is to clarify the South Carolina Nurses Association’s expectations and promote a collaborative working relationship between SCNA and the Chapters. While SCNA maintains accountability for its resources, we wish to assist your chapter to further to work of SCNA. The following describes SCNA’s expectations for recipients of Chapter Advancment awards. Please call Judy Thompson at 803-252-4781 if you have questions or concerns.

1. Award Notices

Successful applicants will receive an Approval letter from the Chapter Commission.

Awards will be made three times per year.

The cycle for Awards will be: January-April, May-August, and September - December. This will give each Chapter adequate time to plan and request funding. The actual request for funding will be due six weeks before the beginning of the cycle: thus, November 15th Jan-April, March 15th for May-Aug., July 15th for Sept.- Dec.

2. Application requirement

a. Rationale as to how the Chapter Advancement Award request will meet the purpose or function of SCNA
b. Expected outcome of the activity that is financed
c. Budget description- to include all expected expenditures
d. If CE is to be offered, who is the responsible party for creating application through the CEPC?
e. Contact persons responsible for request submission- To include Chapter Treasurer
f. Evaluation plan


3. Reporting


Reports are to be sent to the Commission of Chapters three times a year. Reports for the awards of Jan- April will be due June 1st, May-August will be due October 1st, September –December will due February 1 of each year.

Reports to include:

  • Narrative/Summary report of activities that the chapter award supported. This information will be placed on the Chapter page of the SCNA Website.

  • Financial report of how awards were spent

4. Changes in Expenditures/Activities

SCNA expects that your chapter will employ sound management practices to ensure that objectives are met and funds are properly spent. The funds should be used in accordance with your proposed budget and are to be applied over the project period. If you have questions concerning management of grant funds or if you wish to make changes in your program or budget, please call Judy Thompson at SCNA.

5. Unspent Funds

Funds remaining at the end of the award period shall be reported to the Commission of Chapters. If the unspent amount is less than 20% of requested funds, that amount can be credited over to the next chapter award cycle. If the amount is greater than 20% of the amount request, a check should be enclosed with the financial and project narrative reports made payable to: SCNA.
